hi ravi,
what do u mean by X is slow,if acceleration of X is your problem, you can
check the /etc/X11/XF86config or /etc/X11/XF86config-4 file for the X
configuration.you can get info on the X server by checking the log
/var/log/XFree86.0.log for the first Xserver started.this will tell you where
the X config is and what params are used etc.by default some distros disable
acceleration in X.u can correct this by removing the Option "No Accel".but
this might not always work.u will have to experiment a little. If you are
using Xfree86 v4 i suggest you upgrade X to Xfree86 v 4.0.3.
but if your problem is that all X applications are slow then you do not have
enough ram.use the command ntsysv to see how many services you are running.by
default many unnecessary services run on RH7 like nfs, samba, http, ldap etc if
you do not need these services turn them off.this would free up more memory.
also use hdparam to put your hdd to use dma and 32bit mode.this could also
speed up hdd access.but not always.again you will have to experiment.

Hi,
I have loaded Redhat Linux 7.0 kernel 2.2.16 on a
machine which is as follows:
Chipset:sis 630E ;RAM:64MB;Video Memory:Shared :8MB
from main memory; HDD:20GB (15 for Windows & 5GB for
Linux) In Lilo .conf file I have changed linear to
FAT32 in order to solve the lilo loading problem.
Loading was successful including X. But the X is very
very slow. Both KDE & GNOME are slow. How to speed up
the X? It is taking ages for each application to load
from X. In fact even starting of X is also very slow.
How to solve this?
Thanks in advance.
Regards
RAVI
