well linux should be better at handling mutiple processes. I would keep an
eye on the amount of memory consumed, especially since you are running
kde2. If you see things getting swapped, you can use bdflush to set the
limits when caching starts. You may also increase the diskcaches a
bit if needed. Moreover you can replace some of your apps with those which
use less space but equivalent functionality ( eg eterm or rxvt inplace of
kterm...things like that )
