Not saying Windows registry is a good thing but the idea of the OS
forcing all the softwares to keep their configuration in a central
location is not a bad idea. I know I will get almost everything in /etc
but it is not something which is enforced and some crazy programmers do
keep stuff in wierd places and then all hell breaks loose.
It's like the difference between premptive multitasking and cooperative
multitasking.
