Again - Sorry if this mail is way too late :) I'm just catching up on my LIH 
mail. I had a similar problem with my machine. Aparently, I could ssh into my 
machine with the root account, but a login from the terminal failed every 
time - for every user. I tried a lot of stuff - but nothing worked. Then I 
realized that the machine had been broken into and I presume login had been 
replaced. I really didn't bother with forensics - because I had to replace 
the machine ASAP. But I guess with RH6.2 running - getting in could be very 
easy - esp with rpc.statd or wuftpd  or bind running. 

BTW  - NO I wasn't running RH6.2 but some version of Mandrake. But I guess 
it's a newer exploit....
