I had to first create this partitions using Ontrack coz otherwise i could'nt
get winduz to recognize any partitions.
So the first three partitions i made using ontrack, then after installing
windows, i used Partition MAgic 6 to organize everything properly, and thru
that i made the last 4 somethingodd gb as unallocated...

Is this problem arising coz i have used Ontrack to make the partitions???

So, if i do this, will i still get an option of bootin in whatever i want?
Is making a boot floppy advisable? Would that be easier and safer coz then
i'm not screwing around with ontrack?

Thanx

How did U create your 3rd partition sir??? I assume the first two were
created by DOS 'fdisk' at the time of winduz installation - but did U use
a third party tool for creating the third 15G partition???

If yes - then there could be problem - perhaps you could try using fdisk.
Did U select the proper partition type for the linux partition??? I guess
it is 82 or 83... If not sure try listing the partitions from 'fdisk' and
check if it is shown correctly... else delete the partition and re-create
it from fdisk... please note this is the linux-fdisk we are talking about
here...

If not - then - create the partitions first and then get ready to
rock-n-roll... U can use either of 'fdisk' or disk-druid for this...

If all fails - start the install - enter fdisk and post the output of 'p'
(print the partition table) to the list...

Cheers,
Narain.

ps. remember - b'cos U have ontrack - LILO cannot goto the MBR or U'r data
is history... Put it in the first sector of the boot partition...

HI list.

i just procured 7.1 and during installation i faced the following problems..

i have a seagate 40 gig hdd...and my bios does'nt support that kinda
space...so i'm using Ontracks disc Manager to access my whole 40gig

i have 3 partitions viz 3 , 15 and 15 gig each and the last partition is
unallocated which i wanna use for linux.

But when i boot using the boot floppy and then i try to install, in disk
druid, i cannot see the unallocated partition for me to install anything.

How do i solve this?
