root@localhost is boring? Tried userdel -r root?

Don't ever work as root. Add a normal login id for yourself and work
from there. ANything you have to do as root should be done by su'ing
or using sudo. Most destops have a menu option to go to root as well
(in KDE, it is in K->System->Terminal (Super User mode)).

newlxuser> 2) Will this reflect in my mail sending ? or the
newlxuser> reciever will still see my usual [EMAIL PROTECTED] ?
newlxuser> Or local network and remote smtp server react

Oh yes, the email address is configurable in most modern MUAs. SMTP
servers will not react differently to this.

newlxuser> 3) Is there a way to suppress all the "garbage stuff"
newlxuser> in sent mail that shows up btwn sender's name & the
    newlxuser> body of text ?

By garbage text, if you mean the headers, then it usually is hidden by
default in all MUAs I have seen. Check out your settings - and RTFM of
your MUA.
