I have a apollopro133z (ASUS CUV4X) I've never been able to shutdown the
machine using ACPI.

That's strange... it compiled fine for me... did you copy your .config
from the prev. kernel ?? Because the ACPI has changed considerably since
2.4.3 (the last time I enabled ACPI)
also the old acpid doesn't work with the 2.4.6 kernel!
