Hi
   It seems that you lost the lilo boot loader that is stored in the MBR by 
norton.You don'nt have to partition or install anything if you have a linux 
boot disk, just boot via the boot disk and restore lilo.But the best way is 
to do it via the bootable linux installation disk.Boot it up and choose 
upgrade and don'nt select anything and continue lilo will be installed.
