Welcome home Sriram ... The problem is, in your absence VSNL
has changed their policy (an anti-spam measure I believe) ..
You need a VSNL id to mail out through their SMTP (viz some-
thing like *.vsnl.net.in or vsnl.com or vsnl.net suffix) ...
Your cs.utah.edu and hotmail.com will not do ...

To boot into console instead of GUI, when xdm/ gdm/ kdm are
installed, and then get into GUI with "startx", it is just a
matter of setting the initial runlevel in /etc/inittab. Just
amend 5 to 3 as shown in the line below from /etc/inittab.
# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
