This depends upon the way bash  is compiled. If --norc option is
not set,  for non login-in  shells (like xterm, rxvt  and kterm)
the  file  which gets  read  is ".bashrc".  This would  work for
terminal  as well  even if  it is  a login  shell or  otherwise,
because that is how your distro has been compiled ...
