call. Upto that its fine. After that some authenticator should come into
the picture ( eg mgetty) which should be verifying the login and passwd. I
have a feeling wvdial is getting confused there.

yeah this part is quite strange, maybe the remote IP that you are getting
is being assigned by the local pppd daemon. Do you specify that in
/etc/ppp/options ? Ideally with the authentication failing, the remote ppp
should not even fire up. About web pages, hope its not from the proxy's
cache
