I have the following setup (this is output of cfdisk)

Name Flags Part Type FS Type [Label] Size (MB)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
     hda1 Boot Primary Win95 FAT32 2097.45
     hda5 Logical Win95 FAT32 3150.29
     hda6 Logical Linux ext2 [/] 3174.96
     hda7 Logical Linux ext2 [/home] 3150.29
     hda8 Logical Linux swap 263.21
                       Logical Free Space 8184.16

First of all, I really don't know how the last bit of free space got left
out, I had chosen the option to grow to fill disk at the time of
partitioning w/ disk druid.

I have win98 on the first partiton (2G) w/ my data (for win) on D: (3G). The
rest I have used for pcqlinux 7.1.

The problem is that when I mount hda5 (ie. D: of win) and cp some files over
to the linux partition, a large amount of files are being deleted from the
directory (in win) from where I cp the files. Though this does not happen
everytime, it has even happened once after doing just an ls on that
directory. Once when I coiped over ~500 mb of data from a cd mounted under
linux to my D: it really cleared out a lot of files on my win D:.

Has anyone experienced this ? or am I doing something wrong. It's not a
virus in win b'cos I haven't copied any win executables or loaded any new
programs or gone online at all from my win partiton in the last couple of
months, except to update my McAfee and that too while runing behind a
firewall (ZoneAlarm).

I am only keeping win because I have a large no of doc files which I now use
under linux using abiword, but abiword sometimes barfs while opening a .doc
file and then I have to boot into win copy paste the text of that doc file
into a new one, cp it over tomy ljnux partition & then open the file w/
abiword.

can someone explain this mess,

regards,

Sharukh.

btw is there any way I can convert all my msword (~850-900) files to native
abiword files ? At present I am doing this one file at a time.
