But if you have *i think* ctrl pressed from before it still stops at the
lilo prompt. I had used this when i had set the lilo.conf timeout to 5
milisecs by default.

There is one way. Setting the timeout to zero seconds in lilo.conf
This avoids linux single being typed manually. As for stuff like loadlin
or
bootdisks, physical access security is necessary ...
