Hi all,

I have installed debian 2.2 at home and require help to configure it.

My first priority is to bring up networking. I have a dlink card which uses
modified rtl8139 chipset and a DHCP cable connection. Setup is working fine
under Mandrake8.

First, how do I configure the network interface. There is no /dev/eth0 and
the output of `ls -al /dev|grep 0$|more` does not contain anything that looks
like a network interface.(I experienced this with freebsd also. The interface
was called as rl0)

Do I need to upgrade the kernel. I have downloaded 2.4.9 deb. I may need to
download modutils etc. too but what about /dev/eth0? Who makes that entry and
is there any simpler way to configure it? Or shall I duplicate my mandrake
/dev/entry?

I tried fiddling with /etc/network/interfaces but that's not worth of it
unless I have a /dev/eth0 entry.

Thanks

 Shridhar
