You don't need to be a unix or c guru to do a standard compile - reading the
install (and if necessary, reading the FAQ) does the trick, 90% of the time.
Posting a query on a list like LIH (or better, the mailing list of whatever
you are trying to compile) is a good idea for the remaining 10% of your
questions.

Hmmm... screwed / incompatible libraries perhaps? Or perhaps you haven't
installed the -devel rpms required? [that's a nuisance with deadrat ... the
- -devel <lib and include files> rpms are separate]

What's the use of this random statement? If you have any specific issues,
post the questions ... plenty of us use linux as workstations and servers
(desktop being something you use to browse + check mail + use office suites +
play games, nothing more), and compile progs with no hassles at all. [even me
- - and I can't code in C / any other language if you threatened to hang me]
