some gurus like Suresh /Raju/Kingsly ?Bish might even tell u the files(is it
modules.conf?) which u may change if sndconfig doesnt wok properly
though an addendum a frd has the same conf with 700 Mhz celeron and in his
computer i tried using sndconfig but the playback test failed still sound was
enabled:)(dont ask me why though)

fsck .. it runs automatically when Linux boots .. to check its existence ..
dont shut down the comp just switch it off .. next time fsck will complain and
run a test .. but hey im jus kidding .. try this @ your own risk or just type
fsck

for one i dont know whether caldera uses .deb format dpkg files or .rpm Rdehat
files for installation of packages .. im assuming it uses rpm
yeah man.. i do use both of them . but the gnome rpms r there .. i think they r
installed .. if not then u may need the exact rpms/.deb files
which u can download from the gnome website(www.gnome.org)
or alternatively from www.ximian.com/download/
and one thing i have on PCQ Linux 7.1 is switchdesk a nifty utility provided by
Redhat which allows u to switch between KDe and GNOME ... check if u have it
or in kde run the KDE Package Manager it will tell you two things .. whether u
have rpm installations or .deb and also whether gnome files are installed or
not .. hust probe around ..
