hey junta im back .. with another set of problem s that i want u all (BIsh,Shridhar,Suresh,Raju etc) to solve
In my college we have a netowrk of 7 computers which has a total userbase of nearly 400 odd users at last count. Now we basically have a lab in which all these guys can login and browse .. we have had fullinstalls of linux on each of these comps but mot have PCQ7.1 while the other two(incl the main server) has Redhat 6.2 The problems that we are facing are pretty peculiar 1 WE tried to install user quotas in the server which has a 6gb hdd mounted as /home and shared thru NFS which has all the users home directories. But the damn thing backfired( i used linuxconf.. i know it was a bad thing but hey i dont know ne other way) bcos ppl couldnt access their home dirs thru test login and couldnt login at all thru graphical interface the display would just blink and the login screen(xdm) would be restored the server (would show an error message on its display:fh_verify:permission failure//ara00154 acc=1 errno=13 which i couldnt resolve and we had to turn off quotas but despite our warnings the hdd is running out of space regularly . we now have to enable the disk quota some how .. pls tell me what to do .. even if we need to installl Caldera MDk/Debian we can do it .. but this state must be controlled 2 We have a system Celeron 667 Mhz which is running slower than my own personal pc (266 celeron with kde) which is on redhat 6.2 i do not know what to do it to make i run faster .. in fact earlier it was running faster on windoze 2k similarly a PII300 with 32 mb ram was earlier on win98 very nicely but when we turned it to Linux 7.1 it has become baad .. the installations all places haave been basic Xwindows no KDE/Gnome nad full server install Some time back i remember that this is due to nfs which is a pain .. and a resource hog .. 3 We are going to install a network on top of this soon .. in which we wish to install a proxy wetup to control certain sites access .. ban mass dowloads to make the net service dcent ... what software do we need and how do we do it ?The central server btw is a PII/500Mhz thx in advance cacofonixx the expectant one __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
