Why would gnu-pop3d or vm-pop3d is required? AFAIK if the users are ready to disclose their passwords then simply running fetchmail from root account(or any other account) should do the thing. Ofcourse you need to have .fetchmailrc with all the required details for all the users. Also you need to specify which pop3 account is to be mapped to which local account. If users are not ready to disclose the password then each of them can run fetchmail with their own .fetchmailrc whenever they want. Regards.
