How would you distribute it locally from the LAN server to the users who are
most likely using doze PCs? If they were all using pine / mutt on linux, or
some kind of webmail app, there's no need for pop3.
[Squirrelmail has a facility to check external pop3 accounts - and users can
specify their own passwords for this]
