I also executed lilo ; lilo -q.
Here is the problem that I faced when I tried to boot from the new
kernel, the machine hanged at:
NET 4.0 Unix domain sockets 1.0/smp for Linux NET 4.0
(i.e. just before mounting vfs ext2 file system to readonly. before it
prompts to press i to enter interactive startup.)
I then tried to boot from old kernel (using LILO) but I no longer had
vfat support even though I chose the module form of the vfat during
menuconfig.
