Suresh,

You seem to have had some bad experiences with linuxconf. Any software
if not used properly will screw things up. Linuxconf has evolved quite a
bit from what it used to be. But it is a good tool for newbies.

I personally only edit the configuration files directly or use scripts
which I have written myself. 

Out of interest I would like to know as to what security hazards can
linuxconf cause.

Bad advice... there's nothing like linuxconf for screwing up
configurations and creating security hazards.
