Thanks everybody in this group, especially Sayamindu Dasgupta, Kinjal Sonpal
and Viral Gohil, for your prompt reply.
Now, I don't feel Linux as too hard.

Actually it run smoothly in P-I computer with 48 mb ram with 4 mb S3 virge
dx/gx pci card. I think it's the problem of Trident AGP 3dimage 975
card. But I am still confused, while upgrading from RH Linux 6.1, some of my
programs like sndconfig doesn't run.

I downloaded alsa files from it's website :
alsa-driver-0.5.11.tar.bz2
alsa-lib-0.5.10b.tar.bz2
alsa-utils-0.5.10.tar.bz2
alsa-tools-0.9.0beta8.tar.bz2
I couldn't extract the files using tar -zxf command. So I extracted the
files using kde utility in graphical mode.
I managed to compile the driver and libs but couldn't compile utils. It says
different version. The driver was installed and when I tried modprobe
snd-card-ymfpci, I got 'no modules found' error. In the install file of alsa
driver, it was stated that yamaha YMF72x card is auto detected.
When pnpdump command was used, it gave 'no boards found' message. How can
this problem be
solved.

I downloaded the driver file from the motorola website. And installation was
perfect. But the modem couldn't be configured. Actually my kernel version is
2.2.16-22.1386. While the cd says RH version 7.1. So, is there some way to
install motorola modem in 2.2 kernel. Though motorola has said the driver is
for 2.4 kernel only.

With best Regards,
Pawan Dev.
