What about using your own ISP's smtp server - or turning off smarthosting and
going 'direct to mx' - running your desktop copy of sendmail as a mailserver?

Or see if smtp.softhome.net offers pop before smtp - so that you can check
mail from pop.softhome.net and then send out mail.

ps - A do it yourself alternative - a little better than install-sendmail
