That value is set to HPTERM if you are using X on HP machine and importing
display on to your local X server [eXceed or local X for that matter].

When HP detects that the session is an Xsession, it would set the TERM to
HP TERM.

Now you have TERM=linux on your machine which is unknown to HP. Similarly
you have hpterm on HP host which doesn't know what it means to have a
linux term.

Thankfully, both the machine know vt100. So what you can try is this. If
you are TELNETing to HP machine, set your terminal to vt100 by using

$export TERM=vt100

and then telnet to it.

If you are doing an X[wrapper] -query HP.IP.Add.ress

then you should have no problem anyway.
