For power to shut down automatically ensure

1) you have not enabled symmetric multi processing ( support for more than
one processors ) in your kernal compilation, ie if you have a
uni-processor machine.
2) You have enable apm support
3) start your apm daemon by /etc/rc.d/init.d/apmd start
or by ntsysv that should do it
