noticed it.

Have you deleted the drive(D:) alone or the entire partition ? Either way you 
can install linux.

              You dont have to fear anything even if you install 
LILO in the MBR as your other OS is WIN98. However since you 
want to boot with a floppy disk you can install LILO in the first sector
of the root partition(not the MBR). It will then be functionally useless and
wont harm your win98 installation. But do make two copies of your boot disk. 
The first one during the install itself and the second one after booting the 
first time with the "mkbootdisk" command.
