Since I was interested in installing Linux(Workstation
class: KDE & Gnome both), my cousin presented me the
July 2001 P.C.Quest issue. I have a P-II 233 MHz,64 MB
RAM,10.2 GB HDD,24x CD-ROM & Windows 98. My HDD was
partioned as C:(75% PRI-DOS)and D:(25% Extended DOS
partion). I then deleted the extended DOS partion(viz
D:). I would now like to install Linux OS in this
space(i.e. in the deleted partition space). Can Linux
recognise this space & install itself over it?
Also, I want to use a Floppy disk to boot into
Linux and do not wish to install LILO on the MBR. Is
it now necessary to install LILO on the first sector
of the partition in which Linux will be installed? I
have held myself back until now, since I fear I might
lose valuable data on the Windows partition(i.e C:).
Please Help. Eagerly waiting for your valuable advice
& suggestion.
