Thanks Nitin. But I am using kernel 2.2-13 at SuSE 6.3 here. As the source
code is REALLY OLD and I am sure it would not require GCC extensions - it
would have done for me.

Would you people suggest upgrading the gcc that I have?

Question! Why should I upgrade my "gcc" when it is the program "as" that
is failing? Anyone? USMB? Taths? Rajesh?
