Thanks! I found that HorizSync and VertRefresh are exactly what was specified in the monitor manual. So I then changed the resolution to one step lower than what is specified in the manual via setup, and this helped - the annoying flashing is gone. But the background is no longer uniform - has dotted horizontal lighter lines etc. (This is of course much less annoying than the original problem). Does this mean that my video card is not good enough to make max use of the monitor? Also is the clockchip setting (via setup) likely to help?
