The guy was apparently trying to configure innd for an intranet-only
newsgroup. Outlook Express users (and the need to send jpegs) seem to
warrant his configuration.
That said, I hate html and you hate html. However, the days of bitching
about html posts being bad netiquette are long gone, right after AOL, M$
Outlook Express and others came onto the market.
Those who started posting with trn / tin / slrn (like several of us here)
would - and still do - resent that, of course. Hell, I've seen lots of trn
users flame people for sending posts in anything other than straight ASCII (8
bit? Quoted-Printable? forget it!).
Hell, even pine parses html posts - and mutt can be massaged into reading
html, with judicious use of mailcaps and lynx -dump.
What was that line about 'Be conservative in what you send and generous in
what you accept'? :)
