Today, on booting, fsck ran automatically on maximal mount count and spewed
out the following error:

Error reading block 426356 (Attempt to read Block from filesystem resulted in
short read) while doing inode scan.

--------------------------------

I was then dropped into a shell where fsck /dev/hda1 gave me the same error
and asked if I wanted to ignore it. On saying yes, it ran further and gave
the fs a clean chit. I could then reboot w/o any problems.

What does the error mean. I have an almost new (~ 3 months) 40 GB hdd.

regards,

Sharukh.
