Once the user has authenticated you can easily trace him from the maillogs ..
Trivial to add a header as well.

By default, most distros are configured to display the mailbox
status on login. To disable this feature (eg. for a standalone
box) edit /etc/login.defs and change MAIL_CHECK_ENAB to "no".
