I have an HP USB 9800 modem (its actually an Aztech USB 9800 modem)
My OS is RedHat Linux 7.2
Both the USB ports have been detected and are enabled.
I downloaded the Linux driver for the USB 9800 modem from the
http://www.aztech.com/driver/modem_um9800.htm Aztech website. Unzipped the
file and installed the two rpm files. Installing the rpm files gave no
errors.
The following is the relevant extract of /etc/modules.conf file
-------snip------------
alias usb-controller usb-uhci
post - install slmdm //usr/lib/slmdm/load_slinf
above slmdm slv90 scfax
alias char-major-212 slusb
----------snip--------------
My kernel version is 2.4.7-10enterprise
After installing the rpm files a new directory was created in the
/lib/modules 2.4.3-20mdk which has another directory by the name of misc and
in this directory are the files
slfax.o
slmdm.o
slusb.o
slv90.o
I even copied the misc directory and its contents to the
/lib/modules/2.4.7-10enterprise directory
However, I have not been able to initialise the modem.
As per the readme file I ran the command #./load_slmdm from the
/usr/lib/slmdm/ directory but it terminated with errors.
I have also tried to insmod the various modules listed above but even that
fails.
Any one who has successfully installed the USB 9800 modem, please do let me
know.
Regards,
DaX
