Seen and tested ( thats what the man page says )
My line in .fetchmailrc reads as
------snip------------
defaults
forcecr
poll smtp.isp.dom with proto pop3 no dns
user admin with password secret is = * here
fetchall
-------snip---------
On executing fetchmail it terminates by the following warning
.fetchmailrc:4:    parse error at =


Man O Man so much for RTFM
