LFS is by no means an easy venture ... FYI, this is not stand-
alone and needs to be created as the second OS.  You  need  to 
have a working system and a stable gcc installed already.  You
have to download each and every thing and compile.

Anyway, all the best for your venture.

You can get a single CD Slack 8, and build from there.  It is
rock stable and reliable.

Incidentally, debian needs only 3 odd FDDs to install.Once the
initial base system is set, the  rest you  can apt-get at your
own convenience. By then the disks would be out ...  The delay
between release of slink and potato and their  availability in
the Indian market was about 8-10 weeks ... and woody was form-
ally declared stable on 08 Dec 2k1.

Why re-type a full command.  At the bash prompt "!" allows you
to go back to the last command executed with a search pattern.  
e.g. During an edit-compile session you entered something like 
gcc -o test test.c, and then edited it again, to re-compile it 
all you do is enter '!gcc' [Enter] ... and there it goes ...
