Please note, when you "upgrade" your kernels, your modules
must change too. It appears, your kernel is picking up the
cdrom driver as a module. The specific file is:

/lib/modules/2.4.12/cdrom.o

It is likely that your modules are still of 2.4.8. Do you
have the above on your system ?

There may be problems in LILO automatically  detecting  memory
larger than 64 mb, in which case, the following are needed:
a) to lilo.conf add: 'append = "mem=255M"' (for 256 mb RAM)
b) run: 'lilo -v' to re-initialise boot sector
