These points always bug me ! I am never sure whether an installable app. would start insurgency in already existed Kashmir teritory or not ! ;-) Why the linux developers do not make a provision that if a particular app. & it's dependent libraries are already present in the "real estate", better to use the already present libraries OR else create & use it's own territory ( read libs ) ? >I have two two three Linux distros installed at any one time, and >the partitions that I share are: >a) /opt ... where I keep all statically linked packages only, or > things like O'Rielley books ... Interesting, those O'Rielley books ... ! Would you give me all the links of these dnloadable e-books ? >b) /archive ... a special partition where I store downloaded or > copied source tarballs, txt/html and graphics/ music files. > [This is a vfat partition shared with M$/ Win] Ditto, here ! >c) /swap >The following should never be shared /usr, /etc, /var or even >/home. Can't we sub-divide \home with 2 or more sub-dirs like \home\RH, \home\Slack etc & use it with some symlinks options and share in diff distros ? So even if, we re-install a certion distro, every thing will be ready to use ! Sorry for my linux ignorance. :-( ****************************************************** >Date: Wed, 9 Jan 2002 01:40:41 +0530 (IST) >From: Philip S Tellis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Also, if I had more than one distro, they'd all be experimental. >There's no fun in having a stable system that you never risk destroying. >Half the fun in learning is the constant risk that you might damage >something. I would have been lucky, even to be on the later part of the "and" ! ;-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2002 18:01:26 -0800 (PST) >From: Naren Devaiah <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >What you need to do is to mount the dirs and include them in the PATH >variable. Everybody is not genius, lucky & God-gifted ! :( And as Bish said - if "LIH sorts out things within two days,", most would try to approach LIH first & then experiment. A new need without a readymade soln, tend to produce a new scientist ! - as they say ! But NOT re-invention of the wheel. ;-) Thanks & Regards ! ~newlxuser _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
