Kudzu tries to make the process of Plug-n-play easier for users by
checking during every boot to see if new hardware is added to the system
between boots.

This sometimes is a help for people who are not comfortable configuring
hardware on Linux.

As to the problem of segmentation faults within kudzu, this might indicate
a problem with either the executable or a hardware problem that gets
triggered by running kudzu.

Assuming this did not happen earlier and started happening only recently,
I would suggest you check if your memory (RAM) is good. Use something like
memtest86 to check RAM.

If the executable is corrupted, you might want to replace it from the
Installation CD.

Other than that, kudzu does not more AFAIK.
