Dunno about the new ones.. but the one that shipped with RH6.x would keep trying to remove/add support for my printer ...depending on whether the printer was off or on! I found it easier to stop the service than keep telling it to keep the current configuration! In anycase almost all working hardware is detected automatically.. and kudzu is not alsa aware ... on a regular use machine it only causes more inconveniences than anything else.. but it's very useful if you switch your harddisk from one machine to another.(remember to turn on the service before you move the hard disk though!!)
