That is not true. In fact, if RedHat tried to stop you from modifying it,
then they'd be in violation of the GPL.

What RedHat says is that you have to ask them before using their name, RedHat.
You can (I think) call your product as "Based on RedHat Linux", so long as
you adhere to some (extremely petty, if you ask me) font size guidelines
they have put up on their web page.
