I have gone through very strange and interesting experience ( IMO ). Although I was able to achieve the objective ( by spending a lot of time ..) I would like to know possible reason.
I tried to download Java Runtime Environment from sun using http protocol. It stalled at 24%. On retry again installed at 24%. I tried ftp, same problem. Then I tried ftp from a PC, outside firewall ( but within campus ). It was successful. Then problem start of transferring it to my PC. I faced same problem of stalling on 24%. It stop tranferring data, sometime with message " passive mode". When I tried on other PC in our department, it was successful. But from that PC again I cannot tranfer on my PC due to same problem. On the other hand I can tranfer other files much larger size than this ( to and fro ) without any problem. So I am totally confused and unable to find cause. I split into & files of 2MB, and I was able to tranfer 5, but failed on 2. Then I tranferred these two file through mail as attachment assemble all.
