[Cross-posting to LIG, LIH and LIP]

Letting this post go through, but in general please try to put
PGP/GnuPG signatures inline to the message and not as attachments.

I'd encourage people to sign their posts for two reasons:

- - Help spread good encryption amongst the community

- - Establish authorship and timestamp if ever in dispute later

You are welcome to sign each and every post to the list if you like
to, but I'd personally recommend only signing the ones which contain
large amounts of original content. Signing a post which says `use ls
to list files in a directory' may turn out to be counterproductive in
the long term.

Sending your key fingerprint or ID along with a signed message doesn't
make sense -- if the signature is fraud then the ID would be fraud
too. Let people get the ID from the signature and fetch the
corresponding key from a keyserver. They can then decide (based on
signatures or guesswork) whether they trust the key or not.

Attaching a signature as a seperate part on a long post may confuse
the list admins since we see only the first few lines of a post when
it comes up for approval. If we're unable to see the second
attachment we automatically assume it's HTML and reject the post.
Your loss.

Regards,
