Hi Bish,
Thanks again.Finally I experimented the following.
1)Deleted the boot.b from the test system and rebooted the machine and It came up 
fine.I did it in 2 machines and no problem so I decided to do the samething on the 
server which got affected and it did not came up after that.It was saying "LI"
2)Moreover I don't know much about RAID as the affected machine's root partion is the 
combination of /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1.
3)After Some trial and error with various boot options to the boot floppy .I figured 
out linux rescue option in the RHL installation cd.
4)I copied the boot.b from the neighbouring RHL7.1 machine and re ran lilo.
5)Now the machine is up and running
