Some time back I had configured a dial up ppp server on RHL 6.2 and the dial
in user from a Win machine would get authenticated, ppp would fire and all
was well.
To oil the rust away I did the same config on a RHL 7.2 box, a few days
back:-
Basically : a user account whose shell starts the pppd automatically as soon
as the login is correct.
Relevant docs are given in the pppd man and pppd HOWTo
IP forwarding is enabled. The files
/etc/ppp/options[.ttyXX]
/etc/mgetty+sendfax/mgetty.conf
/etc/inittab
/etc/mgetty+sendfax/login.conf
and /etc/ppp/options have the same settings as before
Infact, I had written a detailed procedure in one of the posts on the list.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now when I dial infrom the Win machine, the user is authenticated and ppp
also fires up but after clicking the F7 (continue) button, on the Win
machine, the Verifying username and password dialog box seems to go on for a
long time, ultimately getting disconnected with the message : The computer
you dialing could not establish Dial Up Networking.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone any pointers why should the DUN not establish after the user has been
authenticated and ppp fires up ?
