IMO beginer should try with book which come with CDs from
which he install ( like Red Hat Linux Bible by Christopher
Negus, published by IDG Books India ) and treat Linux
different from Unix.

This will make learning a pleasant experience as he will get
installation procedure, how to begin and answer to most of
the questions, which he otherwise, post to LIH for the first
month of his journey to Linux world.
