The USB device gets powered on once you load the usbcore and the uhci (or equivalent) modules. Anyways as Mukund said the DLink modem is supposed to be a winmodem... depending on whether it's a HSF or HCF type modem... try out one of these drivers. http://www.mbsi.ca/hsflinux/ http://www.mbsi.ca/hcflinux/ Supposed to be beta though. But the good news is they come with support from Rockwell/Conexant... one more hardware vendor gets around to supporting linux!!!
