OK fine.

Assuming you have declared mycompany.com as local that is, it will help.

Which you don't likely want, as the mails have to go to www.mycompany.com

Find how your ISP treats mails to www.mycompany.com ... that is, is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] deliverable, just like [EMAIL PROTECTED]?

Hmmm... if your company is the same it was last year or so, it is.

mycompany.com. 12H IN MX 10 mail.mycompany.com.

[and you should have received a couple of test emails from me]

Makes things quite simple indeed. www is not just a cname - but has an A
record of its own, and an MX record to boot. Your ISP does have a lot of
sense - being the same IP it doesn't cost him a cent extra, and is much more
convenient to assign A records instead of CNAMES ;)

So fine - try this in virtusertable, instead of aliases - and I think you'll
need a later sendmail than your 8.9.3 - 8.11.6 say, or try 8.12.2 :)

Declare mycompany.com as local, along with ho.mycompany.com (the file is now
/etc/mail/local-host-names instead of /etc/sendmail.cw)

Have a virtusertable which says

[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[etc etc]
[finally... the default]
@mycompany.com          [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Usual - makemap the virtusertable ... restart sendmail. Enjoy life.

All other entries than those listed earlier and mapped to ho.mycompany.com
addresses will be passed on to www.mycompany.com where your other users can
pick their mail up.

Or wait... just be careful.

All that means is that your ISP has to set his sendmail [1] to accept mails
for www.mycompany.com (reasonable, as he has an MX for that, pointing at his
IP) and make sure that [EMAIL PROTECTED] == [EMAIL PROTECTED]
simple, will take 5 minutes of work or less at his end.

        -srs

[1] looks like sendmail to me, at least... he's obscured the banner, but the
bounce headers say he's got 8.11.6 with an 8.9.3 cf file ... a bit dumb. [1]

[2] Devdas, Raju... what say we start something where we actually get paid
for consulting on mailserver configs? ;)
