Yeah... a lot of things don't work out too well in cons25 on the freebsd
console... and I think emacs uses a different set of termcaps (if I am
not wrong... I just use the thing, haven't really tried digging into
terminal settings or similar)
For what its worth, emacs on freebsd 4.5 (esp gnu/emacs 21.2, which am
using right now to type this) does display colors beautifully on kde
konsole, gnome-terminal, plain xterm (with xterm-color set) cons 25
[though backspace doesn't work too well as you say]
For freebsd stuff, there's always [EMAIL PROTECTED] ...

There is package called "mtools" just for this. Once installed
you can do manipulation of DOS floppies/ partitions using all
commonly used DOS syntax with prefix of "m" ... For example :
mcopy a:/test.txt /home/usr/. For directory listing: mdir a:;
or mformat a: to format a: as msdos floppy
