This is what I put down for first draft. Any improvement is welcome I don't
know what a petition looks like. But I think if I put down what I feel and what
I want, it should be good enough.

To Yahoo,

Subject: Availability of Yahoo mesenger on multiple platforms

We are part of happy user community of yahoo, thanks to it's quality of service
and open standards conformance.

Yahoo messenger is one IM application that we use extensively and find it
suitable for our needs. It serves our requirements well.

For long time, we have been using yahoo messenger clients developed as open
source applications. There are multiple such clients which has worked well.

Unfortunately for past few days, we are not able to use yahoo IM service. We
believe it's due to change in yahoo IM protocol. A particular area of interest
is authentication. We find that yahoo does not allow requests from older
protocol clients any more.

We request you to maintain the availability of yahoo service to users who are
not on Microsoft Windows platform.

We view availability of yahoo protocol as a simplest method to ensure that
third party clients continue to inetoperate with yahoo service.

Since people want to use different clients to suit their particular need and
features available and it would be an increasing burdon for yahoo to entertain
mariad of platforms, opening protocol would be the quickest step to ensure
service availability.

Some areas of protocol are of immediate interests are authentication,
text/file transfer and conference.

We know that yahoo ships unix clients for RedHat/Debian linux. However people
prefer some other choices for various reasons. E.g. easy integration with
window manager of their choice or a simple text based client for quick
conversation. We ceratinly don't expect yahoo to cater to all possible
combinations for free of cost.

Looking forward for a positive response.

Linux community.
