Hi,
In fact the server XF86_SVGA was not installed and so
even though XF86Config was pointing to it it was not
connectinf to this server using
_X11TransSocketUnixConnect() .After installing the
server X is up and running in debian.

Anyway I have new problem

When I boot into debian I go into X mode because the
boot process tells that it is running xdm.I do not
want to boot in X but should go to multiuser palin
console mode.I tried to find out this in /etc/inittab
but could not make it.The runlevels of debian are
different and i am still getting conversant with it
but I could find one thing that the script S99xdm in
/etc/rc4.d is responsible for it.
How to disable this I know in MDK or Slack but not in
Debian.

Can you pl. put light on this?

Regards,

Prasad
